How to Sell Education Leads

How to sell education leads to colleges, universities and career schools. Screen for program fit, keep a source on every lead, and expect schools to judge you on enrollments.

The short version

Education buyers are schools, and they buy students who fit a program they offer, in a format they offer. Sellers here capture the program of interest, online or campus study, education level and start date.

Schools measure leads by what happens after delivery. A few sellers track each lead to its source and outcome, and one sets goals by cost per enrollment and cost per start. Seven of the 27 companies in our directory specialize in education; the rest sell it beside other verticals.

Sign schools before you buy traffic, have each fund a balance, and keep overflow ready for students no school bid on.

Who buys education leads

Education sites describe a few kinds of buyers, from single schools to the networks that resell to them.

BuyerWhat they buyWhat to know
Colleges, universities and career schoolsExclusive, real-time inquiries from students who want a program they offer, in the format they offer, and warm transfers to their admissions team.Specialists here describe leads as exclusive to each school. Agree programs, formats and states on the first call, and ask for enrollment feedback so you can judge each source.
Enrollment marketing agenciesInquiries for the schools they manage, often with qualification by phone, text or email before handoff. One agency here sets goals by cost per enrollment and cost per start. Keep a source sub ID on every lead so they can report back.
Multi-vertical networks and marketplacesEducation leads by post or ping post from publishers and affiliates, priced by live buyer competition.13 companies here buy from outside sources. Expect an application, creative approval and a consent record on every lead, and one pays nothing for leads that are rejected or returned.

The education lead buyer directory lists every company we found that publicly buys or sells education leads, with what each one says it does. It is a research starting point, with no contact details.

What to capture and screen for

  • Program of interest and area of study.
  • Online, campus or hybrid study, and graduate or undergraduate level.
  • Education level, such as a high school diploma or GED, and whether the person is an adult.
  • When the student wants to start.
  • Financial aid needs or ability to pay tuition, where the school asks for it.
  • Whether the person is a student and not a job seeker.
  • A consent record and a source sub ID on every lead.

The field-by-field version is on the education lead distribution page.

Building it, in order

  1. Pick your programs and formats

Decide which program areas and study formats you will sell, such as online graduate business or campus healthcare certificates. Six companies here split online from campus study, and schools buy only the formats they run.

  2. Find schools before traffic

Sign schools, agencies or networks that want those programs before you buy a single click. Generate only where a funded buyer is waiting, by program and state.

  3. Get each buyer to fund a balance

A few education sellers offer pilots, test batches or samples, and others work on insertion orders and invoices. Skip the free test: have each buyer fund a balance, with no promised volume by a date. In Juiced the buyer funds a wallet and is charged as each lead is delivered.

  4. Build the lead type around program fit

Capture program_of_interest, area_of_study, program_level, education_level and start_timeline, and make the program fields required for ping. Add campus_id when a school has more than one campus.

  5. Write ads that do not read like job posts

One publisher program bars job listing pages and promises of jobs or salaries, and one seller credits job seekers as returns. Clear school-focused ads keep job seekers out of your leads.

  6. Keep a source on every lead

A few sellers here track each lead from its source to its enrollment outcome. Add source_sub_id to every lead so a school's enrollment feedback tells you which sources to keep.

  7. Write the return policy before the first lead

List what is returnable, such as false information, disconnected phones, duplicates, failed filters and job seekers, and what is not, such as a student the school reached but who lost interest. Set expectations on the first call, because schools will blame the leads when enrollments are slow.

  8. Let several schools bid

Several schools bidding on a student beats one school at a flat price. In Juiced the highest bid above your minimum wins the lead in seconds.

  9. Have overflow ready

Students no school bid on are your biggest avoidable cost. Send them to your marketplace, where the price falls until a buyer takes them with Buy Now or a standing Buy Order.

What makes education different

  • The buyer is a school, and it judges leads on enrollments and starts, not only on contact rates.
  • Program fit decides everything: program, format, level and schooling are screened before contact details matter.
  • Warm transfers go to admissions or enrollment teams, and a few specialists confirm interest by phone first.
  • Job seekers are a known problem, so publisher rules bar job listing pages and promises of jobs or salaries.
  • Seven specialists sit beside 20 multi-vertical sellers whose terms are written for every vertical at once.
  • A few sellers serve Canadian or international students, with nationality and start date on the lead.

Common mistakes

  • Selling a campus program's leads to an online-only school because the lead type has no format field.
  • Running ads that read like job postings and sending job seekers to schools.
  • Dropping the source sub ID, so a school's enrollment feedback cannot be traced to a source.
  • Offering a free pilot or invoicing later instead of having the school fund a balance first.
  • Promising exclusivity on the homepage while your agreement says otherwise, as a few sellers here do.
  • Buying traffic for programs no funded school is waiting to buy.
  • Leaving returns undefined, so a school returns every student who did not enroll.

Frequently asked

Do schools buy education leads directly?

Some do, and others buy through enrollment agencies and networks. Seven of the 27 education companies in our directory specialize in education and work closely with schools; the rest sell to networks and buyers across many verticals.

How do schools measure education leads?

By what happens after delivery. A few sellers here track leads to conversions or enrollments by source, and one sets goals by cost per enrollment and cost per start. Keep source_sub_id on every lead so you can answer the same question.

Should online and campus students be separate lead types?

Either separate lead types or a required format field in the ping. Six companies here split online from campus study, and a school that only runs online programs will filter campus students out.

What do education publisher programs require?

One requires the program of interest and education level on every lead, bars minors, incentivized campaigns, pre-populated fields and job or salary promises, and starts new sites on probation with lead caps. Others review creatives and consent language before traffic runs.

What should an education return policy cover?

Published policies here credit false information, disconnected phones, duplicates, failed filters, wrong geography and job seekers, and two exclude students the buyer reached or found uninterested. In Juiced, approved returns are credited back to the buyer's wallet.

Can I sell international student leads?

One student directory here sells leads from international students, with nationality, degree sought, intended field, start date and a financial qualifier. Build them as a separate lead type, since the schools that want them differ.

What do education leads sell for?

No prices are published here. Sellers rarely publish them, and what an education lead sells for depends on whether it is exclusive or shared, a web lead or a call, the geography, how fresh it is and how many buyers want it. The pay-per-lead pricing guide shows how to work out your own floor from cost and let buyers bid above it.

Does Juiced handle education calls or live transfers?

No. Juiced distributes web leads and delivers them by webhook, email or text. It does not track or route phone calls, so if calls are part of your product you need call tracking software for that side.
